Hi Carlos,
Sorry, that's not supported. DCE as a virtual appliance can be installed on VMWare but with its shipped OS.
Kind regards

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is extremely old at this point, and RHEL 7 has been available for several years. I'm surprised that DCE hasn't been tested on that platform yet.
Also, that link to the v7.6.0 release notes doesn't work for me, and neither does the link I got in the "daily updates" email. I'm running 7.5.0 on my DCE appliance and was considering an upgrade, but I much prefer to read the release notes first, of course.

Dear Justin McNutt,
From your comments:

You are misinformed: see my answer above, as well as resource Software packages in Data Center Expert:
In short, now DCE-7.x software is a closed appliance, which is based on the CentOS-6.x OS (the latest version of DCE-7.6.0 is based on CentOS-6.10).
In addition, according to the official resource https://wiki.centos.org/Download for CentOS-6, EOL will come only 30 Nov 2020:
And, according to the official resource https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata for RHEL-6, EOL will come only November 30, 2020:
Also, that link to the v7.6.0 release notes doesn't work for me, and neither does the link I got in the "daily updates" email.
You have a broken link: the correct links to official documents should be searched on the resource PDF Library in section StruxureWare Data Center Expert -> Release Notes.
If you have more questions, please ask.
With respect.

Yes, that link for the 7.6.0 release notes works much better. I still think the link in the daily e-mail should work as well, though. It's a bit silly that it doesn't.
I stand by my comments about RHEL, though. The fact that RHEL/CentOS 6 doesn't go EOL for another couple of years doesn't change the facts that:
1) RHEL/CentOS 7 have been out for quite some time.
2) People need time to do internal testing and schedule upgrades. If DCE 7.6.1 released TODAY and was based on RHEL 7, it would be several weeks at best before I'd be ready to deploy it.
3) There are other drivers besides Data Center Expert that make a company support a given platform internally. I don't want to test, patch, and support every version of every OS just because it isn't EOL yet.
Minimizing the number of RHEL/CentOS OS variants in my network reduces cost. The fact that CentOS 6 isn't EOL yet doesn't help me.
And for as long as RHEL/CentOS 7 has been out, there's really no excuse for not supporting it yet. (RHEL 7 released in June of 2014!) Building exclusively on older releases just guarantees more work for everyone.

Dear Justin McNutt,
From your comments:

Can you show a screenshot of the daily messages you mentioned? I have never seen such messages and do not know about them.
Regarding all your other points, I, in principle, agree: a couple of years before the start of EOL does not improve the situation. I agree, that migration to RHEL/CentOS-7 has long been required. But, perhaps, on this occasion =SE= it has completely different plans. I do not know...
As a result, the DCE appliance is a closed black box, that does not require any maintenance from end customer (at OS level). This, I think, is the main argument =SE= in defense of the current DCE software based on RHEL/CentOS-6.
With respect.

Here's the hyperlink from the "Changes in the last 24 hours" e-mail:
StruxureWare Data Center Expert v7.6.0 Release Notes
It's a sendgrid link that takes me to this URL:
StruxureWare Data Center Expert v7.7.0 Release Notes
You can find some interesting things clicking on the link for the v7.2.7 release notes in the sidebar (which is counter-intuitive). Neither that page nor the "What's New in 7.6.0" link (sidebar) have links to the PDF Library, which is really the best source.
As for the RHEL/CentOS discussion, having the DCE appliance as a "black box" mitigates some of the support issues, but not really from a security perspective, and it doesn't resolve the time crunch at the end where the support window on the old version is closing and I have to upgrade the appliance in a hurry because neither of us will be able to get support for the old one.
I know that management probably doesn't think that code maintenance drives sales, so it gets a low priority. However, feel free to tell them that, in fact, it does. Code maintenance (or lack thereof) is one of the things I watch for in a vendor. If a vendor isn't keeping up (I'm looking at YOU, Lucent!), I'm going to be watchful for a replacement. APC/Schneider devices don't have a great track record in my book for stability and security in the management applications. This sort of thing makes it real easy for me to justify spending my time looking at other systems when equipment fails or support contracts are up for renewal.
(I mention Lucent due to an unrelated but similar issue in which their software was always on the very oldest version of RHEL still supported. They got replaced. BlackBoard has done this sort of nonsense before as well. It's a great way to burn a relationship with a client.)

Dear Justin McNutt,
Now I understand what daily e-mails you are talking about 😀. I did not pay attention to it. Nevertheless, the web-links you specify work fine for me and lead to the correct resource (sooner or later =SE= corrects errors).
With respect.

Hi all,
There was an issue with the release notes page yesterday that has been addressed. You can see the DCE 7.6.0 release notes page now as expected. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Justin McNutt, thanks for your suggestion to include a link to the PDF Library on the what's new and release notes pages. You'll find a See also section on those pages now that includes the link.
Best,
Jackie

Dear carlos di muccio,
In short, now DCE-7.x software is a closed appliance, which is based on the CentOS-6.x OS (the latest version of DCE-7.5.0 is based on CentOS-6.9). Therefore now you can not choose the version of Linux OS when deploying DCE software.
In the future, it may be the release of new software DCE-8.x, and maybe then this situation may change...
With respect.

Hello all,
DCE is treated as an appliance and is closely tied to the CentOS operating system. Any changes to the OS require an update to the entire appliance.
The ITE platform is built on a polling agent architecture where individual polling agents (Gateways) can be deployed to aggregate data and send that data to a centralized repository and interface. These gateways are independent software applications that can run on both Windows and Linux (RedHat) providing the customer with more control over the OS. We offer these gateways as both a free download and pre-configured on hardware.
