Hi
I have DCE 7.8.1. I added a couple symmetra PX 40k UPS recently but in the Device Alarm Configuration , there are a lot of missing alarms that are available in the UPS web interface. I have On Battery Power wherever on Device alarm configuration I don't have it. When there is a power outage I don't have the alarm and to know if we had a power outage I need to look in the UPS log to know if there was a input power problem and if the UPS was on battery.
There is many Device Alarm Configuration but they are not the same as in the web / UPS log.
What is the DDF used for Symmetra PX UPS?
Is it because I don't have an up to date ddf file? What is causing this? PLease help me understand.

Hi,
As long as the Device Alarms page is populated in DCE and you do not have an alarm in DCE about "Device Status may be inaccurate due to DDF file transfer" https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA177004/ , then DCE should have all the alarms for the device. The on battery alarm may be worded a little differently like "loss of input power"
When you discovered the device in DCE, Was priority scanning enabled and are SNMP writes enabled on the device, does DCE have the correct write community string?
- you can check this in Device->snmp device comm settings ->snmp device scan settings
FAQ what is priority scanning
https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA271584/
How long do your on battery event's last? Less than a minute? Less than 15 seconds?
-if priority scanning is not enabled, than DCE will use the polling interval of the device, default is 5 mins. Even with priority scanning, events have to last at least 15-30 seconds so that the device can send DCE a trap and DCE can go poll the device and get any active alarms. If your load transfers to generator in 10 seconds, then you may never see the on battery event in DCE
What is the firmware version on the network card?

Hi! thanks for your input.
Priority scanning is active but as you mentioned, events are too short to be registered in DCE. I have activated emails alerts directly on devices as a workaround. I may have around 10+ UPS on different datacenter which exhibit the same behavior so it's not a firmware or a a specific models. (UPS includes Galaxy VM, PW, Symmetra PX etx...) Some of them I could connect a DryContact on the transfer switch but on a UPS level I won't be able to catch an input transfert otherwise...
thank you!
