DCE Restore Time

Does anyone have any idea how long it takes DCE to a Full restore? The backup took 14 mins according to the backup manager.

DCE is stuck in the "Data Center Expert is starting up. Please Wait..." page. It has been at least 20 mins.

Should restore be fast or does it take awhile to pull in the backup file and unpack it?

Capturelogs shows a "Internal Server Error" Where do I get the Server Error Log?

Regards,

J

Hi John Smith,

If full backup of DCE-server took according 14 mins, then restore process also takes no more than half an hour. And this is normal.

Capturelogs shows a "Internal Server Error" Where do I get the Server Error Log?

I.e. restore was unsuccessful and the DCE-server did not work? Did I understand you correctly?

With respect.

Hi John,

It could take 20 minutes or more but it is based on backup size. You noted the backup took 15 minutes so 20 for a restore would be reasonable. If you're restoring to a system with different resources, the network is busier, etc, it could take longer.

The Capturelogs are the server logs. nbc.xml is basically java based logs based on application level. Most server based info would be in the messages logs. Was the internal server error prior to or during the restore?

So the Restore webpage page did show two items going from 0-100% which took a few minutes. Then it switched to the DCE starting up page and it seems to be stuck there.

So I tried the capture logs (during the restore after the webpage changed to DCE Starting up) but it gave me the Internal Server Error webpage. The VM console just shows me the network settings login page. Not helpful at all.

Last time I tried this, when it was stuck in the stage I rebooted the VM and noted that the PostGre (something like that) was in FAILED state.

So do I rebuild the VM again? or what? This is killing me!

Regards,

J

Hi John,

What resources were given to the new VM? Did you add a 2nd hard drive?

I added a second drive in the Client. I added a 237GB NFS storage and migrated the data to that storage. the VM was deployed using the 7.3.1 OVA.

The VM did have a second drive added but then I realized that didn't work so we deleted the second drive the backup I was using was after the drive deletion occurred. The VM was running fine.

I did try just restoring a config file and that eventually worked. So I lost all the history but I will have to deal with that... As long as I don't have to add all my devices back in.

Took longer then I expected but the config restore finally worked. So I am a lot happier now.
