DCE Device Group Re-Mapping/Nesting

I have an DCE server with nearly 4,000 devices and over 500 Device Group subfolders of which are currently four levels deep in structure, and I need to re-map these device groups from an old structure to a new of which is six levels deep.

While devices can drag-drop between device groups, you cannot as best as I can tell drag device groups to be re-nested within the new structure (different device groups). So, to accomplish the below structure change, I can not see any means to do so without having to create 500+ new Device Groups, drag-drop the devices to new groups, and delete 500+ old Device Groups that were based on the old structure.

OLD:  City > Buiilding > Room > Device Type

NEW: Region > Country > City > Buiilding > Room > Device Type

Any ideas of how to accomplish differently? Data Center Operations already has this drag-drop functionality for groups.

Hi Jeff,

You are right it is currently not possible to re-map the device groups using drag and drop.

However one way to get this done would be to add the two extra levels/groups

ending up having: City > Buiilding > Room > Device Type > Room > Device Type

Then afterwards renaming the top 4 groups using the rename functionality to get: Region > Country > City > Buiilding > Room > Device Type

The finally moving devices from (new) group Bulding to (new) Device Type

I have only tried this with a limited number of devices and sets of groups but for me it worked fine. However some work might be needed in your setup...

Hopefully this helps otherwise please share maybe a screenshot to get some more information on this subject.
