I have the need to create a custom device scan time for our two UPS units.
The lowest option found in the menu is 1 minute, but in the case of our UPS losing building power and being picked up by Generator I would still like to be alerted that a change occurred. Currently that process takes around 24 seconds from power loss to generator power being active. Once the generator is up, there is no longer an alarm condition on the UPS, so I need a scan to happen while the battery is supplying power, before the generator kicks in. If I can set a scan time of every 30 seconds it would be very likely that we can capture this event.
Is there a way to do this?

Hi Scott,
There is is no lower option than what you've seen. If you have an APC UPS, it has something called priority scanning where the UPS will send a trap to DCE causing it to put that device next in the queue to be rescanned (almost immediately).

We are using a Liebert UPS, so that option wouldn't be available. Is there no option to custom create a schedule for those devices? I'm sure the functionality is there it's just a matter of how to access it.

Scott, this option of DCE server also availble for Liebert UPS (and many other SNMP non APC devices): simple register IP address or FQDN of DCE server(s) as SNMP trap reciever(s) on our Libert UPS and all :-).

Hi Scott, spezialist, Although there may be pre-created alerts in the DDF (also called essential alerts) for Liebert and indeed many others, I do not believe we add ourselves in as a trap receiver on any but APC based network management cards. We add as a hidden trap receiver on these cards only. Steve

Just an alternative approach for immediate alerting: use dry contacts to either monitor the UPS and/or generator status.

Just to add to this, in this scenario, its best to configure the UPS to send it's own alerts via email or snmp traps to another nms (not DCE).
Even with an APC UPS, if an alert occurs/clears in less than 15 seconds, it still may not be picked up by priority scanning.

This is what we are currently doing, I was alerted directly by the UPS about the outage. After the fact my manager was asking me why the expensive APC monitoring suite I had just sold him on was not also able to alert us to the outage, which prompted this question.
