I need to monitor the communication status of Modbus devices and need it to send me notification about a device that is not reachable after a certain amount of polls. I see that when you add a device it creates a default threshold but this is not editable. Is there a way of setting up a communication status threshold to alert after 5 unsuccessful polls?

Hi Quinton,
The only way I can see to achieve this to change the time-outs on the Modbus devices (there is no retry option for Modbus devices as opposed to SNMP devices). If DCE does not receive a response within the time-out frame, increasing this time-out value will allow DCE to wait longer for a response before going into a lost communications state. It will then send a notification email about that particular device if it has gone into a lost comms state.
You can change the Modbus Global scan settings in the DCE client under Device --> Modbus Device Settings --> Scan interval (minutes).
You can also set the time-out on each Modbus device under Device --> Modbus Device Settings --> Device Scan Settings. The max time-out is 60 seconds (I believe the default time-out is 30 seconds).
Can you elaborate or send a screenshot of about what you mean by "Creates a default threshold but this is not editable".
Are you logged in as the system admin on the DCE client?
Regards,
B

Hi Breda Thanks for your answer. i tried all of the settings before and its just not doing what i want it to. Only way this will work is if you increase the scan interval to be more than the timeout interval but like you said the max timeout interval is 60 seconds and you cant really set the scan interval to less than 60 seconds on a chain with over 30 odd devices on it
