Hi,
I have a customer that wants redundant DCIM system. He wants to use DCO & DCE in one DC to monitor 5 others. On a second location should be redundatnt DCO & DCE system. Last 3 locations should all have DCE system.
I need to know If I can add DCE from other location into another & what do I need for this?

Dear Boris Majdandzic,
From your question:
I need to know If I can add DCE from other location into another & what do I need for this?
Of course this is possible (nothing extra is needed), but in this case you can monitor only one sensor - the state of link connection between the parent DCE and the child DCE. For example, I do so:
Thus, the parent DCE cannot monitor devices that are connected to the child DCE (this is its important difference from NetBotz appliances).
If you have more questions, please ask.
With respect.

I presume I can add the same sensors in multiple DCE system. How can I achieve redundancy with DCIM?

Dear Boris Majdandzic,
From your questions:
I presume I can add the same sensors in multiple DCE system.
This is of course possible, but then all your devices (UPS, PDU, rPDU, CRAC, etc.) from different data centers should be accessible via the network for all your DCE-servers in different data centers. I do not think that this is what you need...
...How can I achieve redundancy with DCIM?
If we talk about DCE, then the implementation of redundancy, as you imagine it, can not be implemented. See, for example, a similar topic :
There is no redundancy built into DCE at this time. You can create a redundant environment only by using 2 servers to monitor the same devices. Please not they will not share databases and will have no intercommunications between the 2 DCE servers.
If we talk about DCO, then similarly, starting from version 8.2.7 (the latest is 8.3.2), the redundancy (Clustered environment) has been removed. See, for example, Clustered environment is no longer available:
Clustered environment is no longer availableClustered Environments will no longer be available as an installation option in Data Center Operation starting with version 8.2.7. Performance, uptime, and stability, especially in scalable situations, has proven to be significantly better at one node than with several in a cluster.
There are two alternatives to achieve the same results as a cluster:
- Use EcoStruxure IT Advisor
- Disaster recovery in StruxureWare Data Center Operation
Note: Your clustered setup will not be saved when you upgrade to version 8.2.7. You must switch to one of these two alternatives.
Existing disaster recovery node setups must be reattached after updating to version 8.2.7.
With respect.

Dear Boris Majdandzic,
In this case, you need to have a dedicated DCE-server in each customer data center. In addition, all devices of all data centers must be combined into one private network. Back in 2014, I did just that for a number of mid-range data centers.
Regarding DCO software, I'm not sure if your customer needs redundancy. Both the developers of DCO and I personally am convinced of this: DCO is not that software, the reliability of which is very important 😀. At least for all your data centers you can have only two DCO-servers and no more.
With respect.

Hi, thanks for help. Problem is that customer wants to have redundant enviroment. Also he wants each DC to be standalone.
