DCO 8.x supports using the Customer REST web service, when/if needed we can use this web service to add a customer. Here is a simple how to do:

(will be prompted to login)
and then go to "customers -> POST", enter the customer/'company' details, and then execute it by pushing the "Try it out" button:
Activating the customer can be done via web-client - as illustrated, go to Administration > Customers > ACTIVATE CUSTOMER, then select the customer that needs to be activated...

How many company types string can I use? I tried INTERNAL_COMPANY, but failed.

It works fine for me, even using a 50+ character company name.

I found out the reason, there are only two company type , EXTERNAL_COMPANY and INTERNAL_DEPARTMENT.

One thing to note is how the mapping is done between the fields:
"Department" will turn into the "Account No." field, not entirely intuitive.
