We have over 300 remote APC UPS in the 1500 and 2200 variety. We monitor the device with DCE 7.2.1. Over the last 6 weeks I have notice devices all over our footprint are showing a communication alarm. The units are still accessible through the Web interface but still they shop up as Communication as being down.
I expect that our security department is locking down the remote firewall and my have closed down the UPS communication port? I can't get them to own up to actions. Can you tell me how the UPS Communicates with DCE?
Thanks much for your support.

Chuck,
With these particular alarms it is most likely lost SNMP communications. Ports 161 and 162 are the default ports for SNMP communications. We do use other ports for DCE, but these are the two that are most likely blocked. You should also check and make sure that nobody has turned off/changed the SNMP values on the NMCs themselves.
