Portal Java version Upgrade

Hello,

So it comes that time again where security scanning is taking place and looking for vulnerabilities.

Can anyone advise if we have or are able to upgrade Java on the portal server?

referring back to my post a while ago indicates that we cannot upgrade Java we need to use the one it is shipped with. 

If this is still the case, can anyone advise why the latest release Portal.1.3.7 is still using Java versions which are end of life in April 2015? https://java.com/en/download/faq/java_7.xml

Currently on my server there is version 7 update 79.

If this can be upgraded, please provide some documentation on how to perform this while retaining the current portal data.
