Issue
Graphics fail to load through firewalls when using webClient versions earlier than 1.73.
Product Line
Andover Continuum
Environment
webClient prior to Version 1.73
Cause
Earlier versions of webClient (before 1.73) require specific IIS server configurations to function correctly with WebPinpoint when firewalls are present.
Resolution
Scenario 1: All Client Browsers Inside the Firewall
- IIS Server Location: Inside the firewall
- WebPinpoint functions correctly
Scenario 2: All Client Browsers Outside the Firewall
- IIS Server Location: In a DMZ (requires two firewalls)
- WebPinpoint functions correctly
Scenario 3: Mixed Client Locations (Inside and Outside Firewall)
- Option A: Two IIS servers — one inside the firewall, one in the DMZ
- WebPinpoint functions correctly
- Option B: One IIS server — clients outside the firewall access via VPN
- WebPinpoint functions correctly
Scenario 4: All Clients and Controllers Outside the Firewall
- IIS Server and Controllers: Located outside the firewall
- Not recommended
Update in Version 1.73 and Above
A fix was introduced in version 1.73 and later, eliminating the need for special firewall configurations.
Simply set up the system as if no firewalls exist — WebPinpoint will function correctly.
