The ATS22 seems like the unit that would best suite the application. This unit is ideal for pumps and fans and has an internal bypass for when the device gets up to speed and needs to be run on normal line voltage.
The ATS48 is is a soft starter for heavy equipment applications of heavy duty industry and pumps. This operates with Torque Control System for controlled starting and deceleration.
If semi-hermetic compressors would normally run on line power with a normal motor starter and you wanted to soften the starting i would go with the ATS22 as it gives you the ability to ramp up the pump before applying the normal line power.
