Having trouble connecting to Plant Scada OPC UA server from UAexpert

Hi guys,

I'm trying to connect a Plant Scada ver 8.4 OPC UA server to UAxpert but having connection reset timeout

I've also checked the port of the opc server is open. Not sure if I did anything wrong. Any insights would be appreciated!

Hi @ryanhuynh

Definitely check out the help and prerequisites for OPC UA Server here:

https://docs.aveva.com/bundle/plant-scada/page/1037376.html

Make sure SMS is configured, Encryption is enabled for Plant SCADA (the Connectivity Service and IO/Server require encrypted communications) and Plant SCADA is running as a Windows Service.

Restart the Connectivity Service as well, just in case any settings need to take effect.

Thanks for the reponse Oliver,

It was the firewall issue. But I still can't see any I/O or tags from Plant scada on browsing of UAexpert. Did I miss any steps?

Sounds like you are getting closer. I would recommend checking the syslog.dat for the IOServer to see if any warnings or errors there. It seems the connection between Connectivity Server and the IOServer is offline. Check that security is enabled. Also check the Log Viewer (Operations Control Management Console) for any messages relating to the Connectivity Service.

No warning or error on syslog so far. I couldn't see any operation control management console in start menu of aveva group, weird!
WHere can I check the security you mentioned?

Thanks Oliver

Also,
Here is my configurator setting screen. I haven't enabled the ecrypted communication yet, based on my understanding, you don't have to enable this to browse tags, do you?

I forgot that Plant SCADA 8.40 doesn't have a shortcut for (Operations Control Management Console), but you can load it by runnning the program aaLogViewer.exe found in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArchestrA

With regards to Encryption on the OPC UA Server config, you can leave it unticked or unsecure. That is for the OPC Client to OPC Server connection, it can be unsecure for now. It shouldn't have an impact on this issue.

Check that Encryption is enabled for Plant SCADA, and that it is running as a Windows Service. When you see Runtime Manager, it should say "Service Mode" in the window title.

Obviously runtime should be online, and Networking Enabled (citect.ini - [LAN]TCPIP=1).

If you are still stuck, I recommend reaching out to Customer Support and do a live session to debug this further.

Kind regards

Olivier

Unsure why my reply hasn't been uploaded yet.

Hi @ryanhuynh

Not sure why the reply was held up, perhaps there is a delay in "moderation" side?

Thanks for sharing more details. That error was reported internally during testing before.

I had a quick look at Plant SCADA 2023 latest patch, and there are a lot of bug fixes in the OPC UA Server component.

I would recommend to apply the June 2025 Patch (available on AVEVA Support Website) on top of your test system to see if it resolves this browse issue.

You could also experiment with toggling the setting "Disable properties and extensions" on the OPC UA Server on the Configurator.

Let me know how it goes.
