upgrade window display password in clear text

Hi,

I have joined APC two days back, as I am very curiose about the UPS product I was browseing the detail in google, I found a upgrade info in bellow link

in There I selected the below zip file and downloaded

apc_fw_ups_331_anyos_anycpu.zip 2876295 IBM Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) Network Management Card Firmware

Once after that I unzip and run the upgrade exe,

[1] Its pop up the window and ask the ip address , I enter dummy ip
[2] Ask username and password, I enter but surpsisely see that its displaying the password in clear text , why its so ?

I have`nt seen this kind of behavioure in other application, there it would display as encripted text.

I would like to know the reason behind displaying it in clear text.

well, the .exe file is essentially just a batch file that automates the FTP upgrade process. thus, FTP is clear text. i believe the .exe warns you that your user name and password will be sent in clear text also.

Yes, also, as it prompts you whether you have entered the correct information, displaying it in clear text allows you to see any potential typos that would cause the process to fail.
