I was wondering if there is such a thing; I've searched but found nothing

does APC or anyone else make a UPS model with an optional extra battery expansion connector?

kinda the same idea as some laptop / notebook PC's that you can remove the CD/DVD drive and install a secondary battery.

APC makes Smart UPS XL units which have options for external batteries. They include larger amp hour batteries to begin with for runtime, but have option external battery connections for even more runtime.

[see the Smart UPS XL units here|http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=164]. if you find a VA size you like, view the UPS and then click on the Options tab and click on Smart UPS Battery Systems.

Every UPS APC makes larger than the Smart UPS as well as options for external batteries.

also, we have [this option|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BX1500BP] in the Back UPS family. This unit is limited to only one external battery pack though where the Smart UPS can handle up to 10.
