XS 900 problems- Flashing replace battery light

I came home today and heard a chirping noise comming from my XS 900. It was a short low chirping that was happening every 4-5 seconds. When I looked at the front of it, all the lights were flashing. I turned it off and back on and it came on with just the replace battery light flashing. Everything was working that was plugged into it. I then unplugged the battery and the unit continued to do the same thing, whether the battery was plugged in or not. I have researched this on these and other forums and it seems to usually mean that the unit itself is screwed. The only thing is the batteries were really warm and kind of bulging. After checking voltage I was getting 17 volts when together and one was 6 volts the other was 11 volts. Should I try batteries or not? Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi:

What is the serial number of this unit? If this is under three years old I would recommend calling into tech support and working with them to troubleshoot the issue and possibly get a replacement battery or unit.

If you are getting a flashing replace battery LED, that generally indicates that the battery is either physically disconnected, or the voltage is too low for it to even recognize it. If the battery is swollen as you've mentioned, it is very possible that that's all you need is a battery.

Thanks.

The serial number is QB0542144785. Which means it is over 3 years old, I believe. Anyway I may try the batteries since they were hot and looked a little bulged. And also were low in voltage.

James,

Are you sure that the Replace Battery Light is flashing... not the Overload LED? I doubt that the battery replacement will fix the issue. The flashing Replace Battery Light indicates that the battery is not connected to the UPS circuitary. If the battery is connected firmly, then the replace battery light should not flash according to the User Manual.

Yes it was the battery light flashing. But the batteries were well below the correct voltage. I just don't know if the voltage was the cause for the light or the light (unit) is the cause of the low voltage. Also the batteries being hot and bulged indicates bad batteries. I can get replacement batteries for 18.95 each, so I think I will try that first.

Okay...its your choice...Make sure that your supplier can accept the return of the batteries if they do not fix the issue.

The batteries seem to have fixed the problems. I got them at a local battery store for 40.00. Put them in and it is working at this time. Thanks for the responses. The batteries just didn't have enough voltage for the unit to recognize rhem.
