I have an XS 1500 purchased in June of 2012. The QA paper on the side says its model is BX1500G and the serial is 4B1127P29893. The QA test was peformed on 7/1/11. Here is my issue. I was checking out all of our UPS's as a part of our PM. On this one the display would not display the details when the display button was pressed. Only the backlit would come on. The 3 buttons were backlit so the unit appeared to be on. This UPS powers an audio rack for a conference room so I could power it down without concern. I unplugged the UPS as a test and the display lit with its normal data displayed for about 1 second. The information went blank but the display remaind backlit for a few seconds and then went off. The UPS did seem to provide power under battery and it did beep notifying me that it was on battery. As a test I took the battery pack out. It measured 24.81 volts (no load). When I placed the batrey pack back in the unit, plugged it back in and hit the power button the display lit will all the infomation displayed until the battery self test kicked in. When that happened the information went away, the display remained backlit for a few seconds and thne went blank again. Whne you press the display button the display will light (backlit) but no information is displayed. We have other units of the same model and they all work correctly. In other words you can hit the display button and it will show you the data. If you continue to press the display button it scrolls through the various details.
Any thoughts as to why this one unit is acting crazy? Is it just bad?
Thanks in advance!!!!

Sounds like you've got a faulty unit. You've already taken the battery out and thus done a cold start so there's not much else you can try. I'd call APC and see about warranty exchange, you might still have coverage given your ups is mid-2011 build so its under two years old.
