My Back-UPS XS 1500 is currently plugged into my wall and providing power to my computer, but it is displaying its battery level at 0/5 bars and estimates its battery run time at 0 minutes. No error messages are being displayed, so I am having a hard time diagnosing its problem. I tried to run a manual self test using Powerchute, but it gives an error message saying that it cannot run a self test at this time. Powerchute also claims that the battery is charging, although the evidence in front of me suggests otherwise.
I noticed a problem when I plugged in the UPS and saw that its battery was at approximately half full when I expected to be at full, since it had recently been given the opportunity to fully charge. I then observed the battery go from half full to empty while plugged into the wall over the course of several hours, with no devices plugged into the UPS.
So it seems that the device is getting power, since it is successfully powering my computer as I type this, but none of that power seems to be going to the battery. Powerchute does not seem to be able to diagnose the problem, so I am hoping that you kind people might be of assistance.
Thanks for reading!

i just bought the same model as yours. received it 2 days ago. unpacked it. connected the battery.. then plugged ti in the wall and connected the USB .. at first it showed 30% charged.. then after time it slowly went down to zero.
so the next day i called tech support. and they did the diagnose thing. and decided to send me a new battery pack..
so i hope that fixes it...
i forgot to tell tech support that i could smell a strong metal smell coming from the unit ... when the new battery pack arrives i will replace it and try it out .. if not ill call tech support again and be sure to tell them of the metal smell.
ill keep ya updated......

Jimmy,
Sounds like something is definitely wrong with not only the charging circuit, but possibly the PCB board as well. What's the serial number on the unit? Do you know if it's still in warranty?
