I just bought an ES-550VA and it is connected to a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo, which is happily monitoring the UPS, and presumably the NAS will shut down if required. However, I use my Laptop connected wirelessly to my network (including the NAS), so APC PowerChute Personal (2.1.1) on my Laptop complains that it is "unable to communicate with the APB battery backup". Is there any way that I can establish a wireless connection between the UPS and my laptop (through a wired link to the router? through the wired link to the NAS?) so that I can still monitor the state of the UPS on my laptop?
Many thanks, and apologies if this seems like a stupid question!

unfortunately no, the UPS needs to be directly connected via USB to the UPS. there is no way to get it to work wirelessly.
you could stop the APC UPS service when the USB cable isnt connected and restart it when you want to check the UPS input voltage, etc
hope that helps 🙂

Hi Angela
Many thanks from another highly satisfied customer (in Australia). I am not at all fussed that I can't do what I was asking, I was more concerned that I'd spend ages trying to find a solution if there wasn't one! I am happy to monitor the UPS from time to time by connecting it to my computer - it will buzz and ring if there is a problem anyway, and the NAS will have shut down (the laptop will last longer - being battery powered).
All in all I am delighted with the simplicity of setting up the UPS to protect my NAS (and prevent surges or minor outages from disconnecting my router/ cable modem).
Many thanks, and I would highly recommend your product based on my experiences.
Cheers
Peter
