Hi everybody,
I'm new to UPS since I heard about them and if I'd buy one, it would be APC for sure. I'm mostly a gamer than a computer worker. So my question is : what is the model that will suit this computer specs if power is loss?
Intel Quadcore Q6600 @ 3.0GHz, 1.2375V
2x 8800gtx (around 60A total on 12V+ rails)
Corsair 1000W powersupply
Samsung 2693HM monitor
And a cheap router D-Link WBR-1310
Do I have to calculate the max load on the 120V line?
Please send me some light on this.. I am very new to these kinds of things.

Well, the only thing that can demage a memory module in the situation you described is static electricity in your own body. Even if the motherboard were energized, not working, but only energyzed by the PSU, chances are that the module would not suffer anything. I've done that many times and nothing happened.

In my opinion, you need something above 1000VA, I would recommend you at least a 1500VA unit. Those of the LCD series, the BR1500LCD or BX1500LCD would be a good option, but there are other models.
Since your power supply has the potential of drawing 1000W, a big UPS is recommended or you might end up having an overloading unit, specially when you're starting your PC and when the UPS transfers to battery,

Yes, you'll be looking at what the max draw can be. Your power supply is 1000 watts, which is pretty substantial. Do you have any idea how much of that your system will actually use at it's peak? The reason I say that is because this could be the difference between a 15 amp 1500 (limited to 980 watts as the load) or a 20 amp 2200 (limited to 1980 watts) in terms of capacity.

I really doubt his computer drawns 1000W when operating normally, even if he's playing a game.
The only time his PSU would draw 1000W would be when it starts, for a few miliseconds or when it transfers to battery.
If his power supply drawns 1000W and since it is 80% efficient, it means it acctually drawns 1200W from the wall outlet.
And also, since his PSU has active power factor correction, it means a 1500VA unit is capable of supply close to 1500Watts, not 980Watts. This would be for load with .6 power factor, which is not the case of his PSU. His PSU has a .98 or .99 PF.

sorry to bother you, but last night i forgot to unplug the power cord between the computer and the UPS;
my "Back UPS CS 650 VA" was OFF, so have I fried the DDR2 modules?
(I removed them from the sockets). Everything seems to work just fine, now,
but I wonder was there any voltage on the MotherBoard with the UPS OFF, and the power cable still connected?

When I'm working (with trembling hands) inside the PC case, I usually take care. It seems that nothing wrong has happened, this time also. It was just a nagging thought.
Did I or not make the wrong move? It seems everything is OK, the system is just fine.
