What hapens to old UPSs traded in under TradeUPS program?

Specifically, perfectly good UPSs that are traded in for an upgrade instead of battery replacement.

Depending on the age of the UPS (UPS < 4 years old) and the functionality of the UPS that goes through a comprehensive testing from the service department, the old unit will either be scrapped in an environmental friendly way according to EPA standards or the unit will be refurbished for replacement purposes for RMA process. New units from Trade-UPS will have new factory warranty of 2 years. Please note that RBC will only give 1 year warranty on the battery (not inclusive of the whole UPS).

Trade-UPS program is ideal for customers looking to upgrade their power protection when they are upgrading their IT network (virtualizing their servers, network convergence through VoIP, etc.). Older UPS may not have enough runtime, no management capability, lower operating efficiency, etc. Trade-UPS provide an easy path for upgrading their old UPS (APC or any other make of UPS). If and when companies are moving towards virtualizing their servers, they are indeed moving from multiple servers running different applications down to smaller numbers of servers running the whole company. Criticality of these servers being protected by old UPS with new batteries may not the best solution - therefore Trade-UPS is a great option to get a new UPS at a discount. Also, if UPS accessories such as network management card is needed, customers have an option to purchase these UPS accessories at a discount during the same Trade-UPS transaction. Again, this is ideal for those customers upgrading their IT network that will dictate what is required in terms of power protection.

Newer technology in newer UPS are much more efficient compare to UPSs from 5 years ago. For companies that have multiple UPSs, the efficiency gain from upgrading to new technology of the UPS may be worth while.

For those customers that have multiple brand of UPSs that want to standardize on one APC, Trade-UPS is again an ideal situation as Trade-UPS allow the customer to tradein any branded UPS no matter how old the unit is.
