Your ups is still under full warranty!
Apc Said:
our APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD RM 2U 120V (SMT1000RM2U) comes standard with a 3 years repair or replace (excluding battery) and 2 year for battery factory warranty. The warranty is effective from the date of purchase. In the event that you are not able to locate a dated proof of purchase receipt, your warranty is effective from the product's manufacture date. Your product was manufactured on September 23, 2010.
Also have you tried to reseat the battery and connector? Or if you have a meter please measure the voltage of the battery.
That Darn Forum Glitch Again.....I couldn't see the above response until my comment was posted 😧

You can go to this site to verify the warranty. How long has this been going on? Can you try to measure the voltage from the battery terminals or try to swap the batteries with a known good one?
