I just bought a PRO 1500 + a BR24BPG to increase backup time to 1 iomega NAS, 1 Synology NAS and my cable modem, ADSL modem, my dual wan router, my VOIP device and 3 HD DirecTV receivers because we have quite often power failures which could last between 30 min to 2 hours.
Total wattage as show on thePRO 1500 display barely reach 120 W so I guess I have enough time, I don´t care too much for the DirectTV receivers but my main concern are the NAS servers which take too much time to recover from a sudden power off situation.
My problem is that I could only connect the APC usb port to the iomega NAS and would like to provide UPS status also to the Synology NAS. Because they are of different brands, I can´t for example hook it to the Synology which is capable to instruct other NAS of the same brand to turn gracefully off but of course not the iomega.
Is there a way for example using a USB hub to provide info from the UPS USB out to both NAS USB ports as to allow both of them to turn off when required ?
I know this subject has been discussed in other forums but I didn´t find yet a straight answer and it seems this APC is not quite smart but perhaps it could work on my situation ?
Robert

I posted this many years ago 🤣. It seems the move of the APC forum to the Schneider Forum give life again to many defunct subjects !!!
Replaced all the PRO with SMX smart UPS series with network cards, throw away the outdated Iomega NAS and replace it with the latest generation Synology NAS and they all interact through the network.

unfortunately, Back UPS devices only support connecting to one PC or device via USB. you also can only run one instance of our software on a computer, if you were using a computer versus a NAS.
you may need to look into a different solution if what you said is not feasible (having one device monitor UPS status and having it shutdown the second one).
Most Smart UPS and virtually most other larger units support USB or Serial or a Network Management Card which offers SNMP support. I find a lot of SAN devices and NAS devices may support USB OR SNMP, for example.
i would verify what options you have for both of your NAS/SAN devices so we can see what would work best. I imagine if you stick with the Back UPS product you have now that you'll need to come up with a solution as noted earlier (having one device monitor the UPS and tell the other to shutdown) or else look for a different UPS product that can support some type of signaling to multiple devices.

Thanks for your reply.
I was looking at both NAS configuration setups and only the Synology NAS allows to interface with either the USB port of a standard UPS or the ip address of a smart UPS, the Iomega NAS only allows a USB direct connection to the USB port of the UPS.
As explained on my first post the Synology is the only one capable of instruct a second Synology to shut down gracefully. I like both NAS, each one has their good and bad features and I need both.
If I had done a better research, of course I would selected a smart UPS with network interface, but unfortunately both the Backup UPS I got and the additional external battery I bought for it are brand new so in the meantime I should manage with them until I figure a way or buy another smart UPS just for my 3TB Synology NAS which only draw less than 25 watt.
The computers we use to handle the sensible jobs are all laptops so we are safe because we have plenty of time to save the work and shut them down.
