I have a pellet burning stove that if running and power is lost the room fills with smoke. I need about 5 minutes to switch the unit to off the exhaust the stove. During this exhaust it draws 150 watts so the 550VA should be fine. My question is the problem I've read about with the continuous alarm that sounds, will I be able to turn this off? Does this alarm go off whenever power is lost? There's a good chance power can be lost when the stove is not even running.
Thanks

Bob,
The Back UPS emits 4 beeps every 30 seconds when on Battery or during power failure. If you are referring to the Overload Continuous beep, then it can not be disabled or turned off.
FYI..APC K-base ID: 1356:
APC's Back-UPS line is designed for use with Computer-type loads only. They are not designed to be used with motor loads such as fish filters, air conditioning units, space heaters, vacuum cleaners or any other machinery.
One potential issue is the inrush current draw for a motor. It can easily overload a Back-Ups UPS model. Secondly, these models of UPSs output a Stepped-Approximated sine wave when on battery. This waveshape, while ideal for computer-type equipment, is not particularly compatible with most motor loads or other machinery. The result may be that motors run very slowly, erratically, or not at all when the UPS is on battery.
To protect this type of equipment, APC recommends first determining the appropriate size UPS for the motor load in question. Ensure that the Volt Amp rating of the UPS is sufficient to handle the start-up inrush current draw of the motor. Secondly, select a UPS which outputs a Pure Sine Wave when on battery, such as a Smart-UPS (minimum of a SUA700), Matrix-UPS, or Symmetra Power Array.

Thanks very much for the info. To establish requirements I plugged the stove into a Kill-a-watt and monitored throughout all phases of operation and the watt usage ranged from 106 to 168.

If it can work off stepped approximation to a sine wave, then you can connect it to the Back UPS ES 550. Click here to view the BE550G UPS Runtime at different load levels.
