I have a new Back-UPS CS 500 running a HP Microserver. with PowerChute 3.0.2 installed. The units power on test is OK but when running the test in PowerChute all I get is “Unable to carry out a self test at this time”, The green running the full length of the bar before this comes up and a test of removing power to the UPS showed it working as it switched over to battery correctly.
I have removed the software, disconnected the UPS, downloaded the Sever program reconnected and installed the sever program. No difference.
I have seen this error in web searches but can’t really work out what if anything I should do.

Had a look in the events log and the only "new" event I can find is
Log Name: Application
Source: SideBySide
Date: 15/01/2013 08:54:08
Event ID: 33
Tracing this lead to a MS fix to download and install Download and install the Visual C++ 2008 Runtime (9.0.21022.8 ) for 64bit. Tried this and was told not applicable for WHS2011 so didn't carry on. Does PowerChute us VisualC?
If what do I need do?
I THOUGHT THIS WAS FIXED BUT THE INABLITY TO RUN A TEST REMAINES
I had a test failure this morning, fallowed buy failures
Things done
Removed UPS uninstalled software, and reinstalled.
Changed USB input socket.
Device in hardware manager and devices, drivers only shown in devices.
Removed device from hardware manager and rebooted with 2nd reboot when it found UPS again.
Added program to firewall

Support has had me try it out on a laptop (with laptop battery removed). The first test was OK then they failed for 2 more tries. I removed the battery foe a time then refitted it and the UPS to the server. The test failed. The server is a basic WHS2011 install with Syncovery, msftpsrvr and Diskeeper installed being the only extra installs. All 3 are running as services etc. but it sounds as if there could be a issue with these UPS with the self-test.
It gets odder, I clicked on update battry date and a test worked OK, but a second test didn't run again.

Hi not to clear where capacity is reported, but remaining charge is 100%..
When I did a test, removing mains, this fell until recharged so it’s looking right.

I have 2 x BX 1000G's and 1X BR 1500G..
All three will exhibit the same thing from time to time: “Unable to carry out a self test at this time”, (not all at once).
My solution is to turn off the device, unplug it from utility power, remove the battery, let it sit for a couple of minutes.
Install the battery, plug it back in and turn it on.
It will then self test via the software and will be fine until the next time.
The next time can be days, weeks, or months.
I have not been able to determine if it is a software problem or the unit(s). Maybe it is something with the data port that gets reset when turning it off and removing the battery..
Other than this intermittent problem, all of the units are running as expected.
