I have an BX-1000G protecting some home theater equipment. I used a PC to configure the ups via powershoot software. Are the settings stored in the device. My real questions is: I have it set to run 5 minutes in the event of a power outage.
Without a PC connected, will it only run 5 minutes, or will it run till the batteries are exhausted?

I have several smart ups's.. All are old(er), the beige colored ones. I had a smart ups 1000 melt the batteries. Thinking it was a problem with the batteries and not the unit, I replaced the batteries. 48 hours later, the new batteries also melted down.
I bought a new UPS.. the BX1000G.. Never gave it much thought. I like the new size and the look as well as the lcd readout and it is made by APC. That unit is protecting a computer that is running the powerchute software.
I set up a new home entertainment center.. If there is a power event, no matter how small, it takes the cable box 10 ~ 15 minutes to boot. So I thought I would get another BX1000G which I did.
I should have researched but with the lcd display, I didn't even consider it was a back-ups. It works for sure.. However I do not like to stress the batteries.. I would prefer that the ups handle the little things and provide smooth power with no interruption, but in the event of a power outage, I would prefer the unit shut down after 5 minutes and not completely drain the batteries.
The very day I posted and asked the question, that afternoon, we had an extended power event. I was not home when the power went out. The unit ran till the batteries were exhausted, and when power came back, it started up on its own which I would not want it to do in this situation. I was home when the power came back on.
Too bad it can not be configured and remember its settings without a running computer attached.

I was able to answer my own question.. Without the device being connected to a pc with powerchute software running, it will continue to run till the battery is exhausted.
Bummer
