Hi, continued from the previous thread below, we returned APC's 1500VA for a new one. Everything worked fine. However, another forum suggested an APC Smart-UPS 1500VA USB & Serial 120V for our new Panasonic Viera HDTV. Would it matter if we kept APC 1500VA BX1500LCD? Would it protect our new Plasma? What is the difference between the two UPS?

The Back-UPS RS/XS LCD series should be just fine for your Plasma display. It is true that our AV line is more feature rich, if you're at all interested.
But as far as serving as a battery back-up for your TV, the LCD Series will do just fine.

The major difference between the two is that the Smart UPS units output a pure sine wave, where-as the Back-UPS units output a step approximated sine wave.
Further the Transfer Time of the Back-UPS is typically longer than that of a Smart-UPS. The transfer time being the amount of time the unit takes to get from a power loss condition to fully operating on battery. Some equipment, and especially High end audio/visual equipment can have a very limited tolerance for transfer times, and may turn off, or 'reboot' from a temporary detected power loss.
Generally if possible for Audio/Visual equipment we would really recommend one of our A/V units, as it has tighter transfer times, and the filtering is specifically designed for A/V equipment, with allot of other useful features.
Otherwise If the TV can operate with the back-ups on battery, and your comfortable using it that way, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Though you may experience the TV turning off or resetting during battery transfers.
As to the question of whether it will really protect the TV, without know the actual power draw for the TV I can't be more specific whether it will in fact work or not. If you could provide some more details on the actual Wattage that it uses, or Amperage we could give you a better answer for that specifically 🙂
