Just experienced some brief power outages and the UPS XS 1000 kept computer and peripherals going throughout. But even with the power restored it will not revert to ONLINE; stays ON BATTERY . PowerChute dialogue states that battery back up is working. No indication to replace battery either in power chute or the indicator on the front of unit. When I turn it off and then on again there is a clicking/whirring sound that starts and then slows down and then stops. Is it time to replace the unit? It is about 5 years old.

how long after the power outage did you wait for it to come back online? the UPS can go to battery for other conditions such as brown outs, electrical noise, THD which can be occuring before and after actual black outs.
The UPS, when rebooted (turn off then on), does its UPS self test - which is testing its battery operation. The fan comes on at this time and you'll hear some clicking with relays going between on battery and online.
Is it still on battery now? What LEDs are lit on the front? The replace battery LED should be solid when its time to replace the battery.
