Hello I have simiral problem:

Model:                          Back-UPS ES 700G
Serial number:                5B1207T05484
Firmware revision:            871.O2.I
Software version:            PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0.2
RAM:                             7,95 GB
Free disk space:             340,95 GB

It happens several times in hour, but randomly. I change battery (it was similar like the issue for wrong battery) but it is still wrong.

APC is 4year old, previous battery same, new 1month aproximately.

Can you help me?

Hi Sergey,

What is the model and serial number of your UPS? It is located on a white sticker on the back or bottom of the UPS.

You said the battery was new, did you purchase an APC battery or 3rd party battery and install it in your UPS?

Regards,

Nicole

Hello,

Can you confirm that the actual UPS shows that the battery is disconnected? Were there any LEDs flashing or is the unit emitting a certain beep or sound?

Hello.

Yes, UPS apps shows that battery is disconnected, and after some seconds is everything fine with popup windows Reconnected.

When apps show alert, battery is blinking red led three or four times with 10 seconds long sound

Hello All,

The issue that you are describing is a symptom of the battery needing to be replaced. As the battery gets older and used more, the voltage can start to collapse, causing the UPS to not detect that it is there. Especially in the smaller units like Back-UPS, this is sometimes how we know that the battery has reached EOL, since it is not able to sustain the proper voltage, even when being charged.

Based on the serial number, the UPS is over 4 years old, so with a typical lifespan of SLA batteries being 3-5 years, this seems completely normal for the timeline. I would recommend replacing the battery or even getting a new unit through our TradeUPS program. You can reach our sales at 800 800 4272.

Thanks,
Shanon

Hello Shanon,

thank you for helping me. I supposed too, but I swap original new battery - and it is still doing same. SO battery change doesn't have effect 😞

anything else?

Couple of thoughts:

1. Does your unit operate from battery if you pull the power cord out?

2. Are you sure the battery is connected? (No joke or sarcasm intended: the battery compartment in your UPS is pretty tight and perhaps one of the wires pulled off. I've had it happen to me.)

3. Have you tried resetting the unit through a "braindead"? This involves safely powering down your attached load, turning the UPS off, disconnecting it from power, disconnecting the battery and (sometimes) pressing or holding down the power button. You might hear a beep or squeal as the unit runs out of remaining power. Wait a minute or two and put everything back the way it was: reconnect battery, plug in the UPS, turn it back on and see if it behaves any differently.

4. Are you sure the replacement battery is good? What does a DC voltmeter have to say about it?

In addition to what William said, did you use an APC battery (RBC17 I believe)?

Lastly, did you tell the UPS that it has a new battery (via PowerChute)?

Hello both of you.

I tried it, but nothing happened - still the same.

I'm sure that battery is OK - I bought it one month ago, it could be right.

How I can check it in PowerChute, if is battery new? PowerChute saying - "your battery backup is operating normally". Estimated battery time is 41min. Is charging from 94%

PowerChute has no way of telling you if the battery is new or when it was made. (With some APC UPS models there is a "battery replacement date" field. Whatever value it has is only set by your clicking a button elsewhere within PowerChute to indicate that the battery was replaced. It is not programmed by the battery.)

Even though you purchased the replacement battery only a month ago, it could be old stock. If you bought a genuine APC battery, somewhere on it there will be a serial number sticker. Part of the serial number indicates year and week of manufacture.

APC Battery S/N

The above battery was manufactured around the 51st week of 2010. (That's the "1051" in the number above.)

A third party battery typically has a date code stamped into the plastic case. Exactly how this code is read and where it is located will vary depending upon battery manufacturer.

Battery with stamped date code

Although it's barely visible here, this third party battery's date code indicates it was manufactured in the 7th week of 2010.

The serial number you gave, if it's a genuine APC RBC battery, indicates the date of manufacture as the 21st week of 2016.

I'm not sure what the "other" number is meant to be.

I view it as possible but unlikely that the battery is bad. In any event, it should be covered under APC's limited warranty, if it is a genuine APC replacement battery.
