I have two LS 500 UPSs. I had three but one just died. Every time the power goes out or even browns out they start BEEP!!!!! BEEP!!!!! BEEP!!!!! which makes my parrot go BEEP!!!!! BEEP!!!!! BEEP!!!!! with makes my wife wake up and you don't want to know what she sounds like!!!!
I've put up with this for years but recently have read that the beep can be turned off with software through the USB cable.
How do I turn the beep off?
I've read that it can be done with the Powerchute software but how?
I got out the software that came with the UPSs but it was written for Windows 98. So I downloaded and installed the Powerchute Personal Edition software from this site but couldn't find any way to turn off the alarm.
Further reading in the forums said that Powerchute Business Edition would do the trick. I downloaded and installed all three programs and can't even get it to find the UPS attached to the computer that the Personal Edition found.
This is very frustrating. How do I turn off the BEEP?

Unfortunately, I no longer have a BackUPS LS 500 available to test it but from the looks of it, it might have something to do with the firmware that is loaded on your UPS.

When I loaded PowerChute Personal Edition I didn't have all those choices. Under Configuration I only had "Options" and "Runtime". There is no "Notification" option.
I first tried PowerChute v2.1 and it didn't work. I then found Powerchute v3.0 and it still doesn't give me a notification option. My screenshot is attached.

Does anyone have an idea why I can't turn the alarm off?

Hi Craig,
One thing that I could think is the firmware of the UPS doesn't have this feature. Normally, PCPE would show the features that it could do or get from the UPS. It's like, the UPS talks to the PCPE on what are those things that can be done. Have you also tried this on an older version of PCPE, i.e PCPE 2.0 for XP?

I've tired versions 2.1 and 3.0 of the PCPE software. Neither give me the option to turn off the alarm. The only software I haven't tried is the CD that came with the UPSs but that had Win98 software. I guess that will have to be my next try. I've tried connecting to both my LS 500 clear and LS 500 grey UPSs with the same results.

From the looks of it, the feature that you are looking for is not available on the firmware that is loaded on your UPS.

So the answer is that you CAN NOT turn off the alarm on a LS 500.
