Symmetra Communications with IBMi Power8
Is there any help for connecting the Symmetra PX20kW to the UPS port on the IBMi (Power8) for receiving the signals for "Utility Power Failed" and "Utility Power Restored" that the IBMi needs to start/stop graceful shutdown? Or another way? The UPS is located on the first floor and the Data Center is located on the second floor. I know there is a Cat6 cable (along with the power cables) coming through the floor that the infrastructure people use for their servers.

Hi Michael,
This is more down to your server then it is to the UPS, your server needs an expansion chassis that support UPS signaling and then there is a particular cable required. You also need to use the built in IBM software.
I tend to tell people that an easier option is to put an NMC into their UPS, install PCNS on another machine (windows/linux/vm) and then configure a shutdown script in PCNS that will send an shutdown command to the IBM server via SSH.

Do you know how to do this (either option)? I don't and I'm the only IBMi person here. 🙂
