I was preparing to change units to a new 550G from my 5yr old 500R because the 500R via PCPE and the indicator LED on the unit was telling me the battery wasn't holding a charge. Before the changeover, I upgraded to the new version of PCPE for my PC. After the upgrade of only the software, the LED on the UPS stopped flashing red and the software now indicates i have a 92% charge on the battery. This is still the OLD 500R unit. The new 550G isn't connected to the PC yet.
What the heck? Anybody know if the battery capacity is actually hooked to the logged age of the battery instead of the actual capacity? The only thing I changed was the new software, and I replied that I just changed the battery today, because I was ready to switch to the new unit, but hadn't done so yet.
Tks,
Mike

Interesting...the BE500R UPS's Green and Replace Battery LEDs will flash alternatively with a Constant beep if the Battery is bad in the unit. The Unit performs a self test at start up and every 14 days automatically to check the battery condition. If possible, can you perform the self test by switching the unit off and on with normal load attached and see if the unit passes the self test?
Secondly, typical battery life is three to five years. Since the battery is 5 year old, I do not think that it can provide an adequate runtime during power failure.
