So I can't use this on my server?

I've just purchased a Back-UPS Pro 650 VA (BR650MI).  This was intended to protect my personal home server.

Unfortunately my server runs a full copy of Windows Server 2016 and I've now discovered that Powerchute Personal edition won't install on this.  From searching, it also appears that the Business edition of the software won't support this UPS model.

Is there a solution to this? If not then the unit is obviously useless to me and I will return it.

Toby.

Toby,

You can install APCUPSD on the server that will provide graceful shutdown, logging, notifications, and such.

Hi Toby,

Back-UPS units are targeted at home PCs and standard workstations so only support Powerchute Personal Edition, the Smart-UPS range is targeted at higher end workstations and servers, as such it supports Business Edition.

There is no way around this using APC software but you can use the built-in Microsoft power settings, they work the same way as setting the power setting for a laptop battery, it's not as feature rich but it will shut the server down when the power runs low.

Thanks I'd already managed to ascertain this and am returning the unit for refund.

I'll buy an alternative from a manufacturer without such stupid restrictions.
