Hi, just got my SmartUPS 1500 today and was wondering if the unit itself comes with a built-in surge arrest functionality or should I put it behind my APC surge arrest?
The official Tech Spec. shows there is Surge Protection and Filtering, but being completely ignorant of UPS I wasn't sure if it meant the built-in in-put surge arrest (for protecting the unit itself) or out-put (protect the connected equipments from surge).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Jack:)

Question is whether the built-in surge protection is for protecting the UPS or the devices connected to the USP.

Both the unit itself and the connected load are protected. As to connecting the UPS to the A/C line via an additional conditioning device, the general consensus is that you don't want to cascade surge protection so, no, don't connect it via another protection device.
