For PowerChute Network Shutdown to work you need a network management card (of course), and that means you need a UPS capable of using an NMC, which would be a Smart-UPS or Symmetra unit. If this is a small application, a Smart-UPS unit will work. "Normal" line-interactive Smart-UPS range from 750VA up to 5000VA generally. I cannot speak "officially" for your NAS system, but as an example, the NetGear ReadyNAS website does state that Smart-UPS units are compatible with its NAS devices, from what I have seen.
To shut down the NAS directly though, the NAS needs to be able to run an operating system that is supported by PCNS. If this is not possible, an external/remote PC will need to run a command file to shut down the UPS that runs the NAS.
