Reset Battery Date after Replacing Battery

I've done a quick search here and elsewhere, the APC manuals talk about doing this, but the Powerchute software on my Smart UPS doesn't really give you that option.

Any documentation out there on how to do this?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Just to make sure, I am assuming you are using Powerchute Business Edition, versus a network management card but I'll post that way anyway.

Here is what to do:

•If you use the PCBE edition console, go to the UPS properties and then go to general, then battery status and edit it there. you may need to select "show advanced items on the bottom left.

•Via the web interface for the business edition agent - access http://127.0.0.1:3052 or go to http://:3052 and click on the UPS name, and then hit configure on the left hand side.

•In the network management card, go to the UPS tab, then click on general under configuration and edit it on the right hand side.

I will post all three scenarios in one screenshot. First will be the PowerChute Business Edition Console method, then the agent access via web browser, and lastly a network management card view of how to do it.

I hope this helps and let me know if you need anymore assistance.

Note: to do the business edition agent web browser method, you must exit the server and the console first if you use it.

Angela-

Thanks for the screenshot and the directions. I note that this is for the Business Edition Deluxe, I have the version that came bundled with the device, which is not the Deluxe version for my server. Looks like I am out of luck otherwise (can't do this with the Powerchute Edition).

What's the model of your Smart-UPS? Is it pre-USB interface units? On these units, it's pretty easy to do it in the service mode using HyperTerminal. I don't have any experience with the newer USB based SUA#### units.

Angela-

I have the basic edition for 1 UPS own (I have 2). I was able to go in last night and change the 1 UPS that runs under the Biz Edition, thanks for the tips. The other 1 only runs on Powerchute Personal Edition, but it sounds like there may be a way to modify it using hyper terminal as someone has indicated above. I have never been able to get the second one to work right b/c it's running on X64 XP. Powerchute personal edition doesn't play well with it, and I haven't tried the version for 64 bit Vista. Powerchute worked OK with the same UPS when it ran under x86 (32 bit) XP...

For PowerChute Personal Edition the needed features seems to be disabled. To enable it do:

Regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/APC/APC PowerChute Personal Edition/2.00.000/Dialog/EnableReplaceBatteryDlg

and set the value to 1. Then go to the APC application and click the battery icon under Configuration / Options

We replaced the battery on an APC (see screen shot for tech data). Even after clicking the battery icon on Self-test screen, it still says we need to replace battery. I found a regkey that appeared to be related, tried to delete the key then restart the app. No luck there, it didn't add the key back which I though was odd. Here's the key info:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition\2.00.000\Dialog]
"ReplaceBatteryAfter3YearsDate"=dword:00003c51

Of course everything is working normally, it's just a nuisance really. Afaik, this model can only use the Personal Ed rather than Business/Network Eds.

I saw on a diff thread that there was a ver 3.0 for Personal Ed, just installed it and still says Battery needs replacement. In 3.0 when you click "Replace Battery Date" under Self-test it actually shows today's date as the one currently set. So gotta be a bug somewhere in the app I think, ah well, cheers folks!

Just to be sure, the UPS is no longer reporting a bad battery but the software is? Have you tried unplugging the UPS for a minute and replugging it back in?

jhc,
Thank you for the registry change for PCv2.0. I did this on my W2K Server today. Nothing changed! Nothing new is shown at Config/Options. I also notice that this registry setting is correct (data=1) on my WinXP clients, but still nothing is shown on the Config/Options window.

Is it possible that this small bit of data might be disabled in many models of APC UPS's?
I suspect so ATM. I use:

1 BP1100 (very old, rs-232? only; that never worked!)
1 BR1500 (RS)
2 BX1500LCD (XS)

Most curious............?
Duncan

all of the models of UPS that you noted should have this feature within the software, by default.

JonPro,
I understand what you suggested. Do you mean disconnect the UPS from the AC main, or, disconnect the USB cable between the PCPE Vx (PC) and the UPS? Either of these actions could have very different results I believe.
Thanks,
Duncan
