Hi,
I just bought a XS 1000.
I have 1 PC and 1 monitor plugged in.
To see if/how it works, I unglugged the unit to see if my equipment stays on.
First time I did it, it seemed to work fine. When I opened powerchute, it had recorded the event and the computer and monitor stayed on.
I did a self-test and since then, the minute I unplug the unit, the computer turn off immediately but I seem to have power on the monitor. I can see on the APC display that there's enough power. When the computer is up and running again, Powerchute did not log the event since the computer was off, I assume.
During the self test, the computer turned off as well.
Not sure if this can be related but I had to turn the unit on it's side to get the serial no for registration.
Let me know if you have any ideas.
Thanks,
Fred

I wish I would have found this forum and thread about 3 weeks ago, it would have saved me about 160 clams. This problem is not just confined to Antec Earthwatts PS, but all new Energy Star compliant PS, regardless of brand name. Could you point me in the right direction for a 500w PS that will work with the Back UPS XS 1000? The sad part of this is that nobody is talking about this issue........and it does need to be addressed so the consumer doesn't get the short end of the stick.

how long had you let the battery charge up for? how much runtime does powerchute personal edition report? does the UPS turn off when the computer does or does it stay on? did you double check to make sure any battery connections didnt come lose when you turned it?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
1 - The UPS display and powerchuet both show 100% charge
2 - I'm not there now but it shows approx 30 minutes runtime.
3 - UPS stays on and beeps showing that the power is out.
4 - If battery connection where loose, wouldn't it not show 100 % charge on the display ? I will turn off the unit tomorrow and 2x check the battery connection.
Thanks,
Fred

Hi,
Ok, back at work this morning.
I ran a few more tests, plugged in a light and a radio as well as my computer and monitor in the backup side.
Unplugged my unit, everything stayed on, exept my computer.
This is what I'm getting from the unit's LCD display
- Estimated runtime 44 minutes
- Load 113 W
- Load 18 %
The computer is :
I7 875
Antec 500W PS
W7 64
I did a search in the forum and it seems that there are several issues with Antes PS.
Can anyone help ?
Thanks,
Fred

Thanks.

silly question but you did not change the outlets around did you? is the PC and monitor still plugged into a battery back up + surge protection outlet? didnt move it to a surge only outlet by mistake?

No. still on the right side.
We did some more research and it turns out the stepped sine output of the XS-1000 is not compatible with my power supply, it need pure sine.
Tested the APC on other computers we have here and it worked fine.
We'll be changing the power supply shortly.
Thanks for the help and support.
Fred
