Potential battery damage?

Hello, I just bought a Back-UPS xs 1500LCD and immediately connected the battery, hooked it up to AC power, and turned it on. I ran a few self-tests. I'm not sure if the slight discharges from the battery before it was fully charged damages the battery or shortens life. I only have a 100 W load (PC/monitor) and it only says 40 minutes of runtime. Is this normal during the first 16 hours of charging, or is it real problem?

the UPS by default does a self test every two weeks anyway. it is not an issue that you did a couple extra. maybe after 6 months, if you did one every single day, you'd start to see an issue.

Since I might replace my UPS and see if the UPS is an issue, can I plug in my UPS with my PC or do I have to let it sit for 16 hours prior to use?

i dont think it will be an issue. i think most people do a couple of self tests or play around with the UPS when they get them. it won't noticably affect the lifespan in my opinion.

no, you can plug the PC in and let it sit. the only reason for charging it with nothing plugged in is so that it goes a little faster. also, if the power went out before its fully charged with the PC plugged in, it may not last that long if the battery hasn't charged. it wont damage anything if you plug the PC in and let it charge up.
