Hey guys, I have a few issues. I have a Back-UPS Pro BK 500 Clear 500 VA. 1st my specs: Core 2 Duo E6600 overclocked to 2.8ghz, 8800GTS, 20" LCD monitor, 2 Raptors, 1 SATA storage drive, Plextor DVD burner, 2gigs Corsair 800 ram, Seasonic 600 watt PSU, 3 140mm case fans and 2 120mm fans. Plugged into my UPS are the system, 2.1 powered speakers, and powered cordless phone. I'm getting Overload beeps from the UPS only when playing games like STALKER and Half-Life 2. I'm thinking that the CPU and GPU are overloading the UPS. I plan to get 1 more Raptor, another 22" LCD, and a Quad core cpu. I used the APC configurator to select a new UPS. The 2 choices are the Back-ups RS 800, and the Back-ups RS 1300 LCD. I was reading on this forum about overclocking errors from Powrchute. Also I'm concerned about the Joule ratings for both of these units. I replaced the battery in my BK-500 2 years ago. Any thoughts on these concerns? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. If the 1300 is good, maybe the 1500 is better for future expansion. What do you think about the RS 1500 VA? Do you think I'll get any errors for the CPU overclocking in Powerchute?

Hello,
With your setup, I would go with at least the 1300 to prevent overload while running large applications like Half-Life 2. As for the Joule ratings, our surge protection uses the MOV, which create the Joule rating, as a last line of defense. Surges and spikes are shunted out through the ground wire with APC Surge devices, including our UPS line. As long as you have a proper ground in the AC outlet the UPS is connected to, the surge protection is high. Units also have an Equipment Protection Policy, because no electronic device is 100% perfect.
Thanks.

The RS 1500 is a great unit. I can't guarantee anything won't happen when you overclock, but it is not something we see on any regular basis. The only time I have come across it, is in this forum.

For your setup, The RS 1300 LCD or the RS 1200 are the best choices. If you'd like to have sinewave output, you may want to consider a refurbished, 1000VA Smart-UPS. SU1000NET if you want the best value or SUA1000 if you'd like to have USB connectivity.
There are many places to get a refurb UPS.
You may also want to look at the SUA1500, which offers 980W of power and more runtime than the RS 1500. A refurb unit is around $320 delivered to WA state. If you don't mind not having USB port, then a SU1400NET is around $230 delivered. The SU1400NET is one of the most popular in the refurb market as it's a very solid machine. These are all pure sinewave output and are "server grade" UPSs whereas the Back-UPS RS are more "consumer grade".
Another thing to consider is that the 1000VA Smart-UPS uses an RBC6 and the 1400/1500VA uses an RBC7 and these batteries are far more readily available in the third-party replacement market than the battery used by the newer Back-UPS RS series.

Hello,
Please note the main difference between the 1400INET and the SUA1500 is the voltage. The SUA1500 is used domestically (120VAC). The 1400INET operates on 230V power.
