Hi all,
I purchased this UPS last week and after experiencing my first black out the LCD displays F02 and beeps constantly. My documentation states that this code stands for "F02 - On-Battery Output Short" and is a system fault. What the heck is that and how do I fix it? I took the battery in/out and that didn't help.

Hi all,
I've got the same problem or at least the same error code. I've "tried" to install my new BR1500GI which I received two days ago.
I placed the unit and plugged to power without connecting anything behind (0 watt output) for a quick test. Starting the Back-UPS, everything seems to be ok; BR1500GI does self-test, and shows me 425 min. battery power left and all the other information available via selecting-button.
So I switched off the Back-UPS again and plugged my computer/monitor to master/battery-backup and restarted it. During self-test the BR1500GI is encountering the System Fault F02.
I stopped again removed monitor from battery (first step) and computer (second step = 0 watt output). But the only thing I get is System Fault F02 since then.
This means, I didn’t had any profit in spending my money till now... and I have to spend even more money for returning the unit and then maybe getting a replacement unit (which means not new). That really hurts.

I recently purchased a new APC XS1500 and it just shut down completely, very unexpectedly, while it was powering my video projector and audio/video equipment. It gave the F02 Error Code that I have read about on this forum, so it sounds like it's not an isolated incident. I am going to call APC Tech Support, but I can only hope that it didn't damage the bulb in my projector because of the abrupt shut down. I have twelve APC UPC devices in my home/office and this is the first time this has ever happened. What's up APC??

Add me to the list of people experiencing the dreaded "f02." I'm currently charging up a replacement Back-Ups Pro 1500 with nothing connected while the other one sits - ready for shipment back to APC. I've spoken to their tech support a couple of times - the first tech seemed to know all about it and instructed me on how to "brain dead" the unit. Helped for a few days until "f02" came back in the middle of the night (why does there need to be a constant alarm, APC???).
The 2nd tech I spoke with assured me this was an isolated incident. Unfortunately this forum seems to show otherwise so I'm not too optimistic about the new unit. Still, I told APC I'd give them another chance. The ironic part about this entire situation is that most of us purchased the APC unit to PREVENT power outages, surges, etc. This unit actually CAUSES them!
If this replacement unit goes down, I'll let everyone know and it'll be the last APC UPS I trust. If you don't see any update, then hooray, it works!

I have a 1300, got the F02 error. Did the brain dead reboot, and it appears to be working OK. Found out my PC would not boot and found a bad power supply. I'm guessing the bad power supply caused the F02 error, and not the 1300 killing the power supply. No F02 error for an entire day so it appears to be working fine. Thanks forum.

same problem here with one of my BR1500GI,
F02 error code.
I bought it three days ago, should I go back it to the shop or should I contact APC?
I'm in Italy now.

I leaved the UPS powered off for some minutes, restarted it and now the F02 beeping error is disappeared.
Now it seems that UPS works ok.
What does it means? Please help. What should I do now?
I'm sorry for double posting in the other thread.

I have seen four BR1500GI in the last week, three are mine and I experienced this problem on two of this unit.
The first time I solved it with a brain dead:
disconnect the batteries, press the poweron button for five seconds, UPS will dead, reconnect the battery and power on the unit.
The second time after the brain dead I also needed to wait an hour with the UPS powered off
but connected to AC to solve the problem.
Hope it helped, if not, APC warrenty is incredibly excellent, so no warry about it.

Thank you Davide and to all others who wrote here,
Finally I could solve the problem by:
° Remove battery
° Press the "Power On"-Button (brain dead)
° AND THEN without battery, connecting to power and starting up the UPS --> shows that there's no battery without beeping or showing F02
° Turn off UPS, Remove powercord
° Re-insert Battery, plug powercord and start UPS
.... and now/so far all is working perfectly

I had the F02 problem occur on an XS1300 last week. Nothing seems to clear it, not even the battery removal and power-cycle trick.

Hi Ron,
Have you tried removing/reducing all the loads on the UPS and turning it on?
