Monitor multiple Back-Ups XS 1000?

I currently own two Back-Ups XS 1000 (BX1000) units and have two more on order. These units have the DataPort and I have the USB cable.

I am currently monitoring one unit using PowerChute Personal Edition V2.0. I am running Windows XP Professional SP2 fully patched.

What APC software, if any, can I use to monitor more than one unit simultaneously? Will PowerChute Business Edition work with these units? Is there 3rd party software available for these units?

Hello,

The Back-UPS line can use Business Edition if they RJ45 to USB cable is swapped for an RJ45 to Serial cable. The cable is simple signalling and can communicate with PowerChute Business Edition. That cable is part 940-0128D. On the main APC page, www.apc.com, you can enter the promo code v191z and fill out the form to receive the cable. You can install the Agent portion on the CPU going to each BackUPS, figuring that each BackUPS is monitoring a separate CPU, and install the Server and Console portion on either machine to monitor both Agents through one interface. If both units are on the same CPU, there is not an option for monitoring each unit that APC offers and/or supports.

You could potentially use PowerChute Business Edition, but you would need to use a differnet cable that would have a serial adapter instead of USB. This will also limit the functionality you would get with software. Since these units are simple signalling, they would just give you a basic on / off battery notification and graceful shutdown, with none of the more advanced configuration features that PowerChute Personal Edition offers.

Business Edition is generally used with our Smart-UPS, which would provide all the configuration options and advanced monitoring.

I've never heard of any third party software with this capability either.
