Is the "battery replace" indicator reliable ?

[1] If an APC UPS reports "battery replace", and the battery is replaced, and the new battery works, then the customer is properly served, and everyone is happy.

But what happens if "battery replace" indicator lights up, a genuine APC UPS replacement battery is installed, then the battery fails within a few days ? Will APC refund the cost of the battery ?

[2] There is need for a "UPS bad" indicator, so that customers will not waste money replacing batteries when the UPS has in fact died. Or is there already such an indicator ?

I have a related issue that I am searching for help on. I have several BR1500's at one of the manufacturing facilities that I manage IT for. I keep a few RBC33's handy for replacements for when the existing batteries fail. I have just attempted to replace one, and the replace battery light goes steady on red and beeps continuously immediately following the self test when the unit is powered back up. If I put the old battery back in, all is well. The old battery has not failed, but PCPE reports the run time is getting below where I need it to be, and since I have the spares on hand, I am fine with deploying them now ahead of a failure to be proactive given the production environment. As I mentioned, I have a few spares on hand. I tried two of them and received the same results. My question is this: Do I have a few bad replacements, or do I need to charge up the replacements in another unit before deploying them to my production units? I've never heard of this before, but I'm just throwin it out there. Usually, replacement batteries come with enough charge to be deployed and then are fully charged so many hours after deployment. This UPS is telling me my spares are dead out of the box, and more than just one. Is there something I'm missing here?
