Terrible, just terrible. Never seen anything this sad.
SO....how do I get rid of the powerchute software?
P.S. Should I have to give my life story to download software and join a forum?

In addition to Buzz comments, you may also refer this [k-base|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2998] to uninstall the PCPE from your MAC.
As Buzz said, there is no power chute software that supports the latest MAC OS X as the MAC inbuilt UPS management or native support allows the user to shutdown the system gracefully when the UPS reaches a low battery condition on battery. This [k-base|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10498] should help you to configure the USB native support in MAC OS X. Please make sure that the PCPE software is uninstalled prior to following the k-base instructions.
Have a nice day!
:)
