Communications lost

SMART-UPS SCL500

 

I am getting communications lost errors and the quick status LED is blinking red. The switch shows no connection. Changing the ethernet cable does not help nor does using a different input on the switch.

Which specific model do you have a SCL500RM1UC or SCL500RM1UNC?!?

 

The RM1UC has a cloud symbol vs the RM1UNC has a network symbol on the front.

 

What is the serial number of the unit and when did you buy the hardware?!? As it has a five year warranty and if in warranty you should contact APC Technical Support.

 

Given you have provided no network information or details about the infrastructure my reply will be over generalized.

 

UPS Port: What is the current status of the LED on the back of the units RJ45 port and their colours / state?


Switch Port: What is the state of the port when connected to the UPS RJ45. Does it ever change state and does the switch display the MAC / IP Address?!?

 

IP: What is the current IP Address for this unit and how is it assigned?!? Static, DHCP, MAC Reserved?!?

 

Router / Firewall: Does the UPS show up in the router / firewall. If so what is the assigned IP Address & MAC Address?!?

 

Ping: What are the results of pinging the assigned IP Address for the UPS?!?

 

Cross Over: Connect directly to the UPS with a laptop using a cross over cable and set the network attributes to match. What happens?!?

 

Power Chute: What does PCBE / PCSS software indicate are the active faults / errors on the unit?!?

 

All of the above are the most basic things you should have done. Let me know what the answers are to (ALL) the above questions. 👍

Thanks for your reply. The UPS mysteriously started working correctly again yesterday. If it fails again in the future, I will refer to your post for guidance. In the meantime, now that I have a network connection again, I used it to update the firmware. Perhaps the new firmware will help avoid a reprise of this problem.
