Communicating with UPS through ethernet

I inherited a CS-350 that had battery problems when I got it. So I didn't get any of the hardware or software that would come with one. I fixed the battery problem and downloaded the software. I had to buy a USB to RJ45 adapter so I could use an ethernet cable to connect the PC and UPS. However, when I connect the two with an ethernet cable, my computer does not recognize that a cable is even connected. I tried my ethernet cable going to my router and it worked perfectly. So my adapter should be working fine. But since I didn't get any hardware or anything with it I don't know if I need a different cable or if I'm doing something wrong. Is it possible I need a crossover cable?

I don't think you'll find much success in trying to use a USB to Ethernet adapter. The UPS is not using the Ethernet protocol at all. APC is simply using the RJ45 connector since it snaps in and is less likely to disconnect by accident. The APC cable is better described as a modified USB cable that simply has a RJ45 at one end instead of the USB-A connector.

Hey Jeckel,

You need a special USB to RJ-45 cable. The partnumber is 940-00127B. I have also included the usermanual of the UPS below.

I realize there is a cable that would have come with it. However, seeing as I have a usb to ethernet adapter and ethernet cables, I would rather find some way to connect it using them instead of spending money on a cable and shipping. I'm sure there has to be some way to do it. I just haven't figured it out yet.
