I'm trying to match up a Dell Studio XPS 9000, windows 7, 64 bit computer with a BR1300LCD, UPS unit, all new. I've installed PowerChute Personal Edition 2.2 and hooked the computer and the monitor and speakers to the battery-surge side and an extra external hard drive to the surge only plugs. But when I interrupt the line power, the computer and monitor shut down and the fans on the computer start racing and the Dell sign on the front starts flashing. Anyone know why the battery back-up does not kick in? I have tried the BR1300LCD with another older XP, 32 bit computer and it works fine. Can anyone help? Thanks,E

The Dell Studio XPS 9000 has a power supply that does not work on BackUPS battery power. It requires a sine wave UPS like APC's SmartUPS. Here's what [dell has to say about it|http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19309661.aspx].
I recommend a 1000VA SmartUPS, such as [the SUA1000|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SUA1000] or [the SMT1000|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMT1000]. Alternatively you could replace the power supply.

I am having the same thing with a home built Gigabyte system but when I intentionally interrupt input power on my system I get a Fault F01 displayed but I am only running 78 Watts of load on it. We had two different instances where power outages took the system down while I was away. When I look at the display on the Power Chute v3.0 software it says I can add more equipment to the UPS This seems to be odd to me that there are conflicting reports of the same data.
