Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum.
I bought a Battery Backup xs Series 900 VA 540 watts a year ago.
When my power goes out the back up doesn't work effectively. It shuts off and immediately comes back on, making me lose my work on my computer. Granted this doesn't happen often but it does.
The box shows a guarantee of 3 years. I bought it from Best Buy about 10 months ago.
How can I have this battery replaced?
Thanks in advanced.
Carlos

Hi,
First of all, I would like to get some information before going any further. Can you provide the exact model number and serial number which can be located on a white barcoded sticker on the unit. Second, I'd like to know the model of the computer and other pheriperals connected on the battery backup outlet of the unit?Do you have any software installed on the computer for graceful shutdown?Does the problem happen eversince you bought and have used the unit?

Hi,
There are 2 numbers on the white sticker 1st # BX900R, 2nd #3B0852X05108.
Computer model Dell Studio XPS 435T.
2 Monitors and another small phillips surge protector that has 2 external hard dirves and a frisby speaker system surround sound.
No software that I know of.
and Yes!, it has been happening day one even when it was the computer and the monitors only.

Also, does the UPS itself turn off/reboot or just your computer? I would try a pull-plug test with something small and basic connected, like a lamp or a radio, to see if those will stay on when utility power is removed.

Could you please try the test I suggested?

Then the problem is with your computer's power supply. If you read a couple of other threads posted here, some computer power supplies do not like the power output of the Back-UPS units when on battery, which causes the computer to either reboot or turn off. The UPS isn't defective, since you saw it work with the lamp, but your computer is not compatible with it.
Depending on your load (which you can find in PowerChute Personal Edition), I would recommend a Smart-UPS, like the [SMT750|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMT750]. These units output a pure sine wave when on battery, unlike the Back-UPS family.

Hi,
Thank you for all those information. If you have done the pull plug test and it worked just fine, it could be that the computer is not compatible with the UPS. Power Factor Corrected Power Supplies (which your computer seem to has) usually requires a pure sine wave to operate. I would suggest you to use a Smart UPS instead of a BackUPS. It outputs pure sine wave which makes it more compatible with all loads. I would suggest you to use an [SMT 1000|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMT1000&total_watts=50] and aboven depending on the Wattage and VA rating that you will need.
