Sounds dumb, I know, and it is.
I recently purchased 2 APC Backup ES550, one for my desktop PC and one for my remote printer/modem/router grouping. I plugged the APC into the wall and plugged the power bar/surge protector thing into the APC. Same basic setup in both rooms.
Yesterday I experienced a quick off/on power outage. It seems the APC was transparent as it did nothing. All devices turned off and back on with the power outage.
I tend not to leave the connection from the APC to the PC in place because I only have 4 slots and I need 5 as it is. I expect that this wold have no effect on the backup power function.
Am I missing a crucial step? Or did I waste my money?
TIA!

Thank for the reply. It seems that I have done everything correctly, but I will try your suggestion about plugging directly into the unit and bypassing the power bar.
Having said that, it's hard to imagine why a power bar would not trigger the backup.
I will report back . . . .
