Backup question

Hi...I am looking for some advice. I am not involved in the computer world but have found this forum and am hoping for some advice. I am looking into the idea of using an APC ups unit to backup my Marine aquarium equipment incase of a power failure. Would this work and what sort of a unit would I need? Thanks in advance
