BackUPS-1350 Electrical Smell when on battery
I have 2 Back-UPS 1350 UPSs, One on a network rack in my basement and another under my desk to run my desktop PC. During a power failure earlier this year, the UPS on my network rack caught fire, Displayed F02, beeped constantly until it was unplugged. APC replaced it under warranty, so I put the replacement under my desk and moved the older UPS to my network rack.
We recently had another power failure and this replacement UPS made the entire floor of my house stink like a hot electrical smell. It stayed powered up/running without any alarms, and according to the display, my sleeping computer was only pulling 3 Watts. I still powered it down and when the power came back on 6 hours later, I powered it back on and seems to operate correctly. It only emits the smell when running on battery.
I don't recall the UPS I had under my desk before emitting any kind of smell. Is this normal?
Thank you for reaching out to the SE Community, my name is Jon and I will assist you with this query.
Apologies for the late revert, I'm sorry to hear about the issue that you've experienced with the APC UPS. May I please know if you've raised a new ticket already for the new event that happened?
Is it possible for you to observe the battery when it is running on battery and online? Does it feel warm to touch?
